How to Write an Essay Quickly?

Blogging and writing are two inseparable activities no matter what your blog niche is. Sometimes, you will need to write a short essay instead of a long article on your blog. You may be asking how to write an essay quickly without losing the important points you want to convey through the essay. This short essay will show you several tips on how to write a (short) essay quickly. However, let us understand what an essay is first.

Essay: What is it?

People confuse an essay with an article. Sometimes, of course, they are synonymous but they are essentially different. An essay is a number of paragraphs discussing a single topic. Based on this definition, an essay usually does not contain sub-topics or sub-titles. An article can be said an essay if it contains only interrelated paragraphs. When an essay contains sub-topics, it becomes an article and no longer an essay.

An essay is usually short and has at least three paragraphs. It means that three paragraphs are enough for a short essay. It, of course, depends on the depth of the discussion that we bring into the essay. The deeper the discussion, the more paragraph we need to write. An important note here is, an essay does not discuss a wide topic but a single focused topic. Therefore, the discussion in an essay should not go wider but deeper.

The structure of an essay

An essay consists of three parts. These three parts can be represented by three paragraphs where one paragraph is written in each part. The three parts of an essay are:

  1. Introduction: in this part, you introduce the topic you discuss in the essay. Inside this paragraph, your thesis statement (main idea) of the essay is stated either at the end or near the end of the paragraph.
  2. Content: this is the part where you explain your thesis statement. This can be one to six paragraphs depends on the depth of your discussion or the number of item you want to discuss.
  3. Conclusion: this requires a paragraph where you put your conclusion, summary, or restate your thesis statement.

After knowing the parts and structure of an essay, you can write an essay quickly by using the following tips.

Tips on How to Write an Essay Quickly

Create a strong and focused thesis statement

Your thesis statement is the main idea you want to convey in the essay. A thesis statement is a declarative sentence that you can place at the end of the introductory paragraph or near the end of the paragraph. A thesis statement should be strong and focused. What I mean by strong thesis statement is that your thesis statement should be clear and showing your position. Telling a general fact or sentence containing two equal ideas is a sign of weak thesis statement. Whereas, a focused thesis statement is a sentence that directly states your point and it should be discussable without having to show too many details.

Examples:

Weak thesis statement: It is interesting to see the difference between X and Y and let us see them.

Strong thesis statement: In this essay, I will argue that you choose Y than X is a mistake.

Not focused thesis statement: We will see that both X and Y are good.

Focused thesis statement: We will see that X is a good choice.

Go to the point

Be concise and precise! We are usually tempted to go around the topic that we state in the introductory paragraph. This is not a good practice for it can waste our times, loosing ideas, and get our readers bored. If you successfully made a focused thesis statement, go with it. Do not discuss what you do not mention in your thesis statement. Just discuss what is needed and put details as necessary. Do not add things that you will be required to explain and eventually out of the topic.

Stick with your outline

If you did not make an outline yet, perhaps you should make one. Your outline is the bone of your essay. You will need your outline to guide you what you must discuss in each paragraph. Whenever you have your outline with you, stick with it. You can revise your outline but make sure that the revision makes it simpler, not otherwise.

Know when to end

You have to know when to end your essay. You do not end your essay because you run out of topic but because you have discussed all you need to discuss. You end your essay because your thesis statement has been clearly discussed. If you are confused how to end your essay, as many writers usually experience, just restate your thesis statement by adding some words to defend your discussion. For example, you may start the concluding paragraph by "We have seen the reasons why X is a better choice than Y..."

Well, those are some tips to write an essay quickly. If you follow those tips, you will have more times to review and revise your essay before making it public.
